But after a second attempt, the Big Sur wallpaper was finally recreated. Weather conditions and fog proved to be a hurdle for the group. 'Carmello' tomato growing in a 10-gallon Smart Pot © Steve Masley A 10-gallon (45-50 cm) container is ideal for growing indeterminate tomatoes. Grow bush (determinate) tomatoes in 5-gallon (27 cm) pots, and larger vining (indeterminate) tomatoes in 7-gallon (35 cm) or larger pots. Plants that dry out get stressed, and plants that get stressed have lower yields, pick up diseases, and attract pests.Īlthough it's more expensive buying larger pots and filling them with potting soil, it saves a lot of work–and disappointment–later in the season. You need the large pot–and large soil volume–to hold enough moisture so the plant won't die if you fail to water it 3 times a day. The minimum pot size for growing tomatoes is 5 gallons (27 cm). Tomato plants are large plants with deep roots, and if you keep them in small pots you get bonsai tomatoes, or dead plants. The biggest mistake people make when growing tomatoes in containers, is planting them in too small a pot. Tomatoes planted in the ground can usually go a few days between watering.Ĭontainer Tomatoes: Click Any Image to See a Larger VersionĪ large 15-gallon (45-50cm) Terra-Cotta Pot is a Good Choice for Growing Tomatoes in Containers © Steve Masley.Click IMAGE to Enlarge In hot weather, they may need to be watered twice a day. Mature container tomatoes need to be watered once a day, even when they're in large pots. Pots dry out quickly on hot decks, especially small pots. The main disadvantage of container gardening is the need for frequent watering. Container tomatoes can be placed against the south-facing wall, in the warmest microclimate available. Many houses have decks on the south or west side, which is choice tomato growing real estate, especially in northern, alpine, or cool-summer gardens. Growing tomatoes in containers also allows you to take full advantage of the best available microclimates. Apartment dwellers rarely have space to garden, but there's room for a few tomatoes in pots on the deck, terrace, or the edge of the carport. Pots also allow you to grow tomatoes on hardscapes like decks, terraces, and other impermeable surfaces. Tomatoes grown in the ground in southern gardens often stop fruiting in the hottest summer months, and don't start up again till it cools off in the fall. This allows you to keep the plants in the optimal temperature range for fruiting, 70-90☏ (22-32☌). In hot southern gardens, potted tomatoes can be started in full sun in the spring, rolled into partial afternoon shade during the hottest mid-summer months, then rolled back into full sun again in the fall If pests like deer, squirrels, or rats go after your tomatoes, you can move them to a safer, protected location. The biggest advantage is, pots are mobile. There are advantages and disadvantages to growing tomatoes in pots. It will also mean watering 2 or 3 times a day on hot days, especially when the plants are large and setting fruit. Tomatoes are heavy feeders with a big root system, and confining them in too small a pot will stunt the plants and depress their yield. If you have files without any metadata or with wrong or suspicious metadata, then there are two ways you can fill in your tags for the audio files – Kid3 can generate tags from the names or it can import correct data from online services like, , MusicBrainz, Discogs etc. In the tag information, it displays the invalid data field in the red color so that you can quickly and easily correct the wrong format of the data. It displays the file in red color, if the metadata added in the file is in wrong format. You can edit the metadata, add new metadata and save the changes. Once files have been added, you can select them one-by-one and it will display the metadata tags supported for that file format. If you want to work with a large number of audio files, then you can also add an entire folder containing many audio files. Audio files can be imported both traditionally using the manager as well as by drag-n-drop methods. You begin by adding either an individual audio file to Kid3. Using Kid3 is very easy despite the extensive set of features that it supports. This program is available for all the popular desktop platforms such as Windows, Linux and Mac OS. In addition to editing and adding the metadata, it also works as a portable audio file player. Kid3 Audio Tagger supports a large number of audio file formats such as MP3, OGG, FLAC, MPC, MP4, AAC, MP2, Speex, TrueAudio, WavPack, WMA, WAV and AIFF. Using the open-source program Kid3 Audio Tagger you can edit and add this metadata for a number of audio file formats. This information is displayed on your screen when you play them in your smartphones or in a media player app in your computer. For example, the MP3 files use ID2 and ID3 metadata that can contain the music title, composer, album, release year, album image, comments and more about the music contained inside the MP3 files. Most of the audio file formats include a special data section inside the file called metadata that keeps some information about the media. This provides us with two advantages.įirst, since we don't have to load the full-sized version, we save a considerable amount of memory. To do it faster, we can open the image eight times smaller, at 500×500 px. So, instead of loading a full-scale image and applying box filter, in some cases you can open a reduced version of the image.įor example, let’s say we have a 4,000×4,000 px JPEG image that we want to reduce by ten times and get a 400×400 px picture. What benefits does it provide? Since box filtering is faster, the whole process can be faster in general, too, even though there are two operations instead of just one.īut what’s most important here is that some image formats, such as JPEG, support opening images in a lower resolution. What if you need to be quick but still accurate? Well, one of the common approaches for downscaling is using box filter before convolution resampling to reduce an image several-fold. I've described exactly how this algorithm works in one of my previous articles. The result of this convolution-based sampling is even smoother The drawback of this approach is the increased calculation complexity. A positive side of convolution resampling is the reliable mathematics, which makes this method applicable for both upscaling and downscaling. This algorithm is applied in professional software and many image processing libraries, including ImageMagick and GIMP. It helps you avoid local geometry distortions. Сonvolution-based resampling is a way to calculate output pixels while taking into account as many input pixels as you need.
Also following the season, Willis was traded to the Toronto Raptors, and Elie signed as a free agent with the San Antonio Spurs. Drexler also won the 2Ball competition along with Cynthia Cooper of the WNBA's Houston Comets during the All-Star Weekend in New York. He then retired to take over the head coaching job at the University of Houston, where he had played college basketball along with Olajuwon, ending his fifteen-year career in the NBA. This marked the final season for Drexler, who received a standing ovation after the Rockets' Game 5 loss to the Jazz at the Delta Center. The Jazz would go on to lose in six games to the Chicago Bulls in the NBA Finals for the second straight year. It was the first time the Rockets lost in the opening round of the playoffs since 1991. Without Barkley, the Rockets would lose Game 5 to the Jazz on the road, 84–70, thus losing the series in five games. However, in Game 4, Barkley went down with a torn triceps muscle injury in a 93–71 home loss to the Jazz. In the Western Conference First Round of the playoffs, in a rematch of last season's Western Conference Finals, the Rockets took a 2–1 series lead over the top-seeded Utah Jazz. In addition, second-year guard and three-point specialist Matt Maloney contributed 8.6 points per game, while Mario Elie and Eddie Johnson both contributed 8.4 points per game each, and three-point specialist Matt Bullard provided with 7.0 points per game. Ĭlyde Drexler led the team with 18.4 points, 5.5 assists and 1.8 steals per game, while Kevin Willis stepped up in Olajuwon's absence, averaging 16.1 points and 8.4 rebounds per game, Olajuwon provided the team with 16.4 points, 9.8 rebounds, 1.8 steals and 2.0 blocks per game, and Charles Barkley provided with 15.2 points and 11.7 rebounds per game, and played half of the season off the bench as the team's sixth man. However, as the season progressed, Hakeem Olajuwon went down with a knee injury and only played just 47 games, as the Rockets began to slip under. The team traveled to Mexico City, Mexico, where they defeated the Dallas Mavericks 108–106 on December 6, 1997, which was the first NBA regular season game played in Mexico. After a slow 3–5 start to the season, the Rockets went on a nine-game winning streak winning 12 of their first 17 games.
